Abstract

In the last decades, biological optical imaging has benefited from the development of new techniques based on various linear and nonlinear optical phenomena. In most cases, the optical signal depends on the local or even the foreign environment of the probe. But for complex environment like soft biological matter, the interpretation of the optical data at the molecular level remains a challenge. We shall present theoretical investigations on the influence of various parameters on the optical signal of small organic dyes. The numerical approaches presented in this talk combine molecular dynamics simulations (to describe the conformations of the solvent or of the soft biological matter) with quantum chemistry calculations (to describe the electronic degrees of freedom of the optical probes).
